Bob Schmidt VIEW PROFILE

Bob Schmidt, Shawnee Mission teacher of fifty years, passed away on Thursday (May 12, 2016). Bob was born in 1942 in Goessel and grew up in Newton. For thirty-three years, he worked alongside his father at Schmidt & Sons Harvesting, driving combines throughout the Midwest. He earned his BS in Education from Emporia State University and began teaching in 1966. He retired in 2008 but continued substitute teaching until his death.

He will be remembered for his love of baseball, camping, fishing and the great outdoors. 

He is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Ellen; one daughter, Amy Day, of Andover; two sons, Robert Schmidt of Kansas City, Missouri and Patrick Schmidt of Washington, D.C.; three granddaughters and one great granddaughter.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 16, at McGilley & Hoge Chapel. His funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
